Jul 09, 2009 · I have a Dell GX280 machine with XP on which I want to setup RAID-1 (mirroring). I have installed two extra hard disks in the PC. now all I need to do is to configure them in RAID 1. In xp, RAID 0 is enabled but I dont want RAID 0, I want RAID 1. Please help. thank you.

Check RAID status in control panel RAID 1. RAID 1 volume said it was operational. In summary no problem installing. Used build in Intel RAID controller on XPS Gen 2 motherboard . Saved about $165.00. Dell wanted $280.00 more for the RAID 1 when I ordered the system.

RAID 1 means you have essentially two separate drives with identical information. So breaking the RAID is simple. Boot to the Intel RAID Option Rom Utility (ctrl + I), change both drives to NON-Member disks then reboot. The 2nd drive will be assigned new drive letter, and you can reformat it using disk management, and have additional space.

Apr 18, 2008 · Software RAID-5 setup is easy do and the best part of it if there is any problem with the RAID Harddisk we can locally purchase a Harddisk and rebuild RAID- 5 with out hassle. I belive it is wiser to choose Software RAID -5 rather than Hardware based solutions. Well I appreciate if we can have the software RAID-5 support in Windows XP too!

Usually you just power down the system (unless it is a hot swapable array) swap the drive, power it back up and depending on the RAID controller you either need to add the new disk to the array or do nothing, it will just start rebuilding with the new disk.
