Aug 15, 2018 · There’s a caveat though. You see, early versions of the 22 didn’t fully support the case head due to the barrel design. The .40 S&W generates more chamber pressure than 9mm (not by too much; the increase is only about 2,000 psi), which has led to a number of case head separations — the dreaded Glock Kaboom!

"Some pistols chambered for the 40 S&W cartridges may not provide complete support of the case head. If this condition exists, normal pressure loads such as those shown here can cause the case wall to bulge or rupture at the unsupported point.

Aug 28, 2005 · I have a Beretta 96 in 40 S&W and this pistol does support the case head except for a tiny bit at the feed ramp, but for all practical purposes it covers it completely. I shoot mainly cast bullets (150gr LRN) and have had good accuracy with the right load.

Jan 10, 2020 · Feeding a .40 S&W round from a 10mm magazine in a 10mm GLOCK pistol follows this process just as it should. Since the .40 S&W brass is 3.6mm shorter, its forward progress isn’t stopped by the end of the 10mm chamber (it doesn’t headspace on the case mouth). Instead, the extractor hangs onto it and keeps it up against the breech face.

May 27, 2013 · Just wanted to post up some pics of a piece of brass that I had the case head separate on. This was with a normal charge of WST. The gun did not kaboom, and the boolit still fired. I’ve never had a case split, factory or reload. The .40 S/W is more powerful than any 9mm and more controllable than any .45acp. I’ve got 5. – 9mm handguns and 6 in ...
