May 27, 2013 · No library is needed for VP8, as its support is passthrough only. The patch was built on top of Asterisk 11.1.2: applying it on different versions may or may not work out of the box, but solving conflicts shouldn't be too hard anyway.

Last I knew Asterisk did not include the VP8 codec for video at this time. The distro will support the codecs that Asterisk itself has support for.

Sep 25, 2012 · Expanded Signed Linear Support. Versions of Asterisk prior to 10 supported 16-bit Signed Linear sampled at 8kHz and at 16kHz (versions 1.6.0 - 1.8). New to Asterisk 10 is support for a much wider range of sampling rates. Asterisk can resample between any of these sampling rates and can read/write raw 16-bit signed linear audio files from/to disk.

Since RTP and SIP over websocket support was necessary, the earliest Asterisk version we could try was Asterisk 11.0.0 in which websocket functionality was introduced, but since we wanted compatibility with the VP8 video codec and the OPUS audio codec we settled for the newest version available: Asterisk 14.
