Feb 15, 2016 · Right, so right now I have Intel's 3570k (does support VT-x but not VT-d), So I am thinking in the next month or so grabbing a second hand 3770 (non k) which does support VT-d which is required to do GPU pass through and other I/O in a VM, as I plan to mess around with Linux and VM's after my exams are done. I like to do research before hand even if its a little far away from me actually doing ...

Jun 26, 2013 · The only place it really hurts is not being able to run XP + DirectX for older accelerated games. VT-d is also not perfect, when I've had it working there were still clicks and pops in the audio on machines that support it. You should also keep in mind K-Series processors don't support VT-d …

Jan 23, 2013 · I'm well aware that the K processors don't support VT-d. My understanding is that cpu, chipset and BIOS need to support VT-d to be able to use it. So the question remains: Does GA-Z77-D3H fully support VT-d (when used with a compatible processor) even though Intel claims the Z77 chipset doesn't support it?

Jan 17, 2013 · There are probably other Intel z77 chipsets that support VT-d. The chipset in the link you provided only supports pci-e 2.0. The cpu and motherboard must both support VT-d. The Ivy Bridge and Sandy Bridge K model processors do not support VT-d. A web search using: ivy bridge vt-d motherboard support should provide more information.

VT-d (the I/O) requires both to support. VT-x & EPT do not require chipset support because they're functions of the North Bridge, which is part of the CPU now. 10 years ago when we had 2 pieces per chipset this would be the case, not now. Thanks for your help so far.

Sep 10, 2012 · "None of the ASUS Z77 motherboards support VT-d. Not even the $450 "workstation" model. Or at least, VT-d is not mentioned anywhereby ASUS. Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H supports VT-d, UD3H does not. I'm not paying an extra $100 for VT-d. Most (or all) MSI Z77 motherboards support VT-d but may not support offset voltage or turbo overclocking.
