I am trying to configure Asterisk 12.3.2 on Debian 6.0.9 but I am getting an error: "configure: error: *** termcap support no found (on modern systems, this typically means the ncurses development package is missing)". When I try to install it by: apt-get install libncurses5-dev I get the message that package cannot be found.

apt - Where can I install termcap from? - Ask Ubuntu

    https://askubuntu.com/questions/28597/where-can-i-install-termcap-from
The termcap library and headers are part of the libncurses5-dev package, which can be installed using: sudo apt-get install libncurses5-dev Additionally, if you just want to build a newer version of a package, consider using the build-dep command to fetch all known dependencies for the package that is currently in the repositories.

Because there is apparently no termcap support for color, these escape sequences are hard-coded into minicom. Therefore this option is off by default. You can turn it on with '-c on'. This, and the '-m' option, are good candidates to put into the MINICOM environment variable. ... DEBIAN SPECIFIC ...

Asterisk "configure" on Ubuntu requires TERMCAP

    http://forums.asterisk.org/viewtopic.php?t=19224
Nov 29, 2007 · On a lark I try "configure --help" to see that maybe I can try "configure --without-termcap" but that fails in the very same way. So let's try to make Asterisk happy and give it termcap support. But there is NOTHING TO INSTALL to provide termcap support on Ubuntu - nothing from Ubuntu and nothing from GNU - because TERMCAP IS OBSOLETE.
