Feb 15, 2011 · 4. Re: ESXi 4.1 problem with Cisco Ether Channel and LACP 5thfishie Feb 15, 2011 10:57 AM (in response to johnnybox78) Below is an example of a working config I have to an ESXi 4.1 Host on a 3650G. Also ESX does not support DTP dynamic trunking protocol. When configuring a trunk port, set it to nonegotiate.4.1/5

With LACP support on a vSphere Distributed Switch, you can connect ESXi hosts to physical switches by using dynamic link aggregation. You can create multiple link aggregation groups (LAGs) on a distributed switch to aggregate the bandwidth of physical NICs on ESXi hosts that are connected to LACP port channels.. Figure 1.

Aug 28, 2012 · To use dynamic Link Aggregation setup you must have ESXi 5.1 (or later) together with virtual Distributed Switches version 5.1 (or later). This could either be a new Distributed vSwitch or an already existing 4.0, 4.1 or 5.0 switch that is upgraded to version 5.1. Even if it is not needed technically for LACP…

Created a Link Aggregation Group on the switch by issuing command "enable sharing 1 grouping 1-4" (this sets 1 as the master port, and links ports 1,2,3,4 statically with address-based link aggregation by Layer 2) After viewing the status being reported as expected, ran a ping test from ESX host which failed; Rebooted ESX host

The LACP is not supported with software iSCSI port binding. iSCSI multipathing over LAG is supported, if port binding is not used. The LACP support settings are not available in host profiles. The LACP support is not possible between nested ESXi hosts. The LACP support does not work with the ESXi dump collector.

LAG/LACP in vSphere 6 LACP support is available since vSphere 5.1 and it helps connecting Esxi hosts to physical switches by using dynamic link aggregation. To aggregate the bandwidth of multiple physical NICs (that are connected to LACP port channels) on a host, LAG is created on vDS and use it to handle the traffic of distributed port groups.

The issue is that the standard vSwitch does not support LACP, only static aggregation. So it is not sending LACP packets and the G8124 is suspending the port to prevent an accidental loop. It is a bit confusing, in that In both the standard and distributed vswitch, you can set the same type of teaming (“Route based on IP hash”), and in the standard vSwitch, that is only ever just a static aggregation.

The switch does not support per-vlan-spanning tree (pvst). This means you may only have 1 spanning tree instance even for different vlans.-Tom Please mark answered for helpful posts ...
