It seems it's because of some img links on the page that have 'ftp' in them but that shouldn't cause FireFTP load. Not sure why that would happen. Development on FireFTP is slowing down since Firefox is dropping support for it in version 57 later in the year. Hence, motivation for working on it isn't the highest currently.

Aug 06, 2011 · It's seems to be a great browser, very fast and easy to use, however the lack of FTP support is a big let down. For now I'll still be using Firefox (with FireFTP). Please get FTP support!

SFTP has nothing to do with FTP, except inasmuch as both are for transferring files. Firefox out of the box doesn't speak SFTP, last i heard. In order to download something via SFTP, you'll need an SFTP client, like WinSCP. or PSFTP (part of PuTTY). Both are free. Or, apparently, there's a FF addon called FireFTP.

Apr 22, 2005 · Joined: July 31st, 2003, 9:26 pm. Apparently SFTP is supported in GTK versions of Firefox, but I don't believe there are plans to incorporate it into the regular releases. I believe FileZilla can do SFTP transfers.
