Dec 30, 2013 · hMailServer does not support StartTLS. When you setup service protected with SSL in hMailServer, you are setting up service protected with TLSv1. SSL client programs that you meet nowadays are TLSv1 clients. If you do happen to run older SSL client software, it can use TLSv1 service due to backwards compatibility in TLS protocol.

If the remote peer does not support STARTTLS, or if the peers can not agree on a cryptographic protocol and cipher, hMailServer will fallback to a connection with no security. If the peers agree on a cryptographic protocol and cipher, but the certificate verification fails, the connection will be used despite the failed certificate verification.

Aug 07, 2017 · The OLE DB Provider used by hMailServer does not support TLS 1.2, so simply stating that the connection should be encrypted won't work since the connection to a TLS 1.2 server will fail anyway. I have added an ini-file-setting which lets you override the provider to be used.

Just because a server supports TLS today, does not mean that it will tomorrow — server configurations can change and mistakes can be made. There are ways, however, to ensure that an email will never be sent to someone without TLS — see Enforcing Email Security with TLS when Communicating with Banks.

I have a Windows 2008 server, running hMailServer. Right now all my communication is unencrypted. I want to start using TLS. So now I've got myself a SSL certificate for my domain. This I did by creating a certificate request in IIS, which I uploaded to a CA (StartSSL, FWIW). I then downloaded and saved the certificate file in IIS.

However there is only one schannel config on windows, so if you restrict the TLS support for IIS you are also restricting it for any other service that uses schannel to communicate. This would include SQL server when using encrypted connections. The mostly likely problem here is outdated TLS support in the ADO connection library.

hMailServer code has to be changed to meet the new API requirements, which is not easy. ... As far as I can tell, the suggestion to drop support for XP doesn't have anything to do with TLS 1.3/OpenSSL support. You can disable ciphers/TLS-versions as required by your organization and for example only run 1.3. Also, if some PCI auditor thinks ...
