Dec 29, 2012 · What distribution? It's 8 for typical Symmetric Multiprocessing (SMP) hardware and 32 for bigger SMP hardware. The maximum is 4096 but AFAIK it's only used for code testing purposes and you'll have a hard time finding hardware with that many CPUs....

Aug 17, 2017 · Please note that the ia64 architecture is for Intel Itanium Processors Only. (Intel's "ia64" architecture is different. Ubuntu doesn't officially support ia64 yet, but work is well underway, and many Ubuntu/ia64 packages are available as of 2004-01-16).

Ubuntu's kernel supports multiple CPU for a long time now, does not really mater if its multi-core or multiples CPUs in one system, they will be handled perfectly.. One thing you have to be aware of though, just because a system has support for several CPUs/cores and those are present in a system it does not mean your applications will automatically run faster.
