Feb 14, 2012 · Using software RAID 1 is pretty much guaranteed to be slower than any form of hardware RAID. In addition, if you have an issue with an array it's not as easy to recover as Microsoft might like you to think. Overall, I would recommend against. Also, if you've configured server backup, don't bother with RAID at all;

Jan 28, 2012 · So i gave up and just combine the two partition and format the whole raid. Of course it's not Windows issue, but the updates somehow messed up the raid. For me, I only lost movies, pictures and apps. Luckily, I have pictures and apps back up on my NAS as well. I guess it's time to get a hardward Raid instead of software raid.

Windows Home Server (V1) has a fairly sophisticated JBOD pooling feature that would copy files from one drive to other drives. Oct 11, 2015 · move up to windows home server 2011. if you can find a key they'll be cheap i use a 5 2tb drive raid 5 on mine. works great. also windows 8 was supposed to have some sort of "home server" capabilities. that or windows server essentials. whs keys are on ebay.

Oct 20, 2011 · Posted October 20, 2011. If your motherboard controller has RAID 5 built into it then you should be able to install three drives and boot into a RAID5 array. Sometimes they still are referred to as software RAID because your CPU does the extra work rather than independent discreet logic (like a RAID controller card).
