    Oct 20, 2008 · windows XP (with the exception of 64-bit) will never use over 3 gigs of RAM (3.5 max), but with 3 gigs you'll be fine for any OS. All the RAM does is hold information while it's being processed. Since windows XP doesnt need to process that much at once, it doesnt require that much RAM. And RAM isnt a good reason to get vista.
