The first, "Disabled", is to Disable all SATA ports (so you have only 2 IDE devices on one port); the last, "Non-Combined", Enables all SATA ports (making them into Emulated IDE devices) and Disables the real IDE port. Jun 17, 2005 · When you use compatible mode, the SATA disks are emulated as PATA devices, and one of the PATA channels on the mobo is disabled to allow the SATA drives to take their place and be addressed as ATA drives using generic ATA drivers. This explains why Ghost detected the drives in comaptible mode, but not enhanced.

Dec 02, 2006 · With Enhanced Mode support ON, a submenu appears with choices [SATA], [PATA + SATA], and [PATA]. The Asus manual states that one can ultimately choose which IDE ports are to be used: [Primary PATA +SATA], [SATA], [PATA]. I thought I might be able to force the system to use the parallel ATA controller, but have not yet managed to do so.

Sep 04, 2011 · The suboption to that control is "Enhanced Mode Support On". The manual says that it "sets Serial ATA, Parallel ATA or both as native mode". (But what does it mean by "native mode"?) The available options are "SATA", "PATA" and "SATA+PATA". I've tried all 3 of them already, and none of them seemed to get the controller out of IDE emulation mode.

The onboard I/O chipset (Intel 82801 GBM - ICH7M) supports it as well as the internal SATA drive I have, but it is only running in ATA mode and I would like to take advantage of the performance improvements of the AHCI/SATA mode.
