Oct 18, 2009 · Update 2014-02-25: As Marc has said in a comment below, ffmpeg now supports wtv files natively, so the dvr-ms step is unnecessary.I no longer use this process at all so I haven’t updated it, but will leave it here for posterity. I use a PlayStation 3 to watch TV programmes recorded in Windows 7.

A patch that adds WTV (Windows Television, the recording format of Windows 7 Media Center) demux support to ffmpeg is now in a mature state, thanks to developer Peter Ross. Gone are the days of circuitous, roundabout conversions from WTV to DVR-MS to MPEG!

Jun 25, 2012 · since dvr-ms is basically mpeg-2 why not simply: (0. remux dvr-ms to mpg with ffmpeg in case ProjectX doesn't support dvr-ms) 1. run dvr-ms through ProjectX to a. fix problems in stream, b. extract audio and video streams 2. run extracted raw streams through Cuttermaran to cut out commercials (and create mpeg output)

Aug 30, 2011 · DVR-MS is MPeg2 (with extensive metadata for MCE) and sort of an intermediate rather than long term archive format. Win7 can convert WTV to DVR-MS format. That is as far as I've gotten with WTV. So I have the same goal as you to convert DVR-MS and/or WTV to h.264.
