Dec 19, 2018 · With ZFS On Linux (ZOL) being more actively developed than the ZFS file-system code within the OpenSolaris-derived Illumos kernel, FreeBSD will be transitioning their ZFS file-system kernel driver to be based on ZOL. Particularly with Delphix moving their ZFS code to be based upon ZOL rather than the Illumos kernel tree, that ZFS code isn't being maintained as well as ZOL.

Sep 30, 2019 · Depending on Linux flavor, support of ZFS is in a beta state (so very advanced) in some distros like OpenSUSE Tumbleweed. In some few years we should be able to perfectly exchange data through ZFS, but we should wait that FreeBSD switches to ZFS on Linux (ZOL). For moment, implementation of ZFS in FreeBSD is not exactly the same.

Apr 22, 2019 · With iX Systems having released new images of FreeBSD reworked with their ZFS On Linux code that is in development to ultimately replace their existing FreeBSD ZFS support derived from the code originally found in the Illumos source tree, here are some fresh benchmarks looking at the FreeBSD 12 performance of ZFS vs. ZoL vs. UFS and compared to Ubuntu Linux on the same system with EXT4 and ZFS.
