Oct 02, 2018 · Nas4free and FreeNAS are very similar, almost interchangeable in some cases. Nas4free and FreeNas both use ZFS exclusively. OMV can use EXT4, XFS, BTRFS, ZFS. Unraid is XFS and BTRFS. Unraid has the benefit of having support, but you do have to pay for it. FreeNas/Nas4Free has the best ZFS support.

Unfortunately for you, neither are good choices for FreeNAS. FAT is too old to be useful, and NTFS is not as reliable as the other filesystems available for FreeNAS; not only does it not journal, the code-path isn't as robust as NTFS-on-Windows or EXT2/EXT3/XFS-on-Linux so there be bugs lurking. NTFS can work on FreeNAS, it's just not a good idea.
