There are multiple wifi interface from kernel to user-space. The iwconfig is deprecated and may not be configured into a modern kernel. Having same issues in New Zealand, solution was to comment out (or delete) the'country=US' line in the wpa_supplicant.conf file. Symptom was wifi reporting no networks in the GUI, but once running 'sudo iwlist wlan0 scan', it would then list the networks...10 seconds later, back to not seeing any networks.

Aug 01, 2006 · it should say name Interface doesn't support scanning. for none wireless interfaces, but then show scan results for your wireless interface.. Find the line that looks like "eth1 Scan completed :" and match the interface name with what the nvram command gave you. If they match, then good iwlist works and wl just sucks on your router .

May 22, 2015 · Please post the commands you used to determine that wlan0 doesn't support scanning, along with any additional output those commands output. Also, please tell us what hardware you're using (is this an integrated network device, or a USB dongle, etc., what is the make and model?)
