    Jan 07, 2012 · I need to find out how to enable or install the SATA AHCI driver in Ubuntu 10.04 when I have the BIOS serial ATA setting to the IDE compatibility mode ? This is a multi-boot system from 2009 with a few versions of Windows installed, (all were installed when in the IDE emulation compatibility mode, and now changing it to AHCI mode in the BIOS).

    @timelessbeing, of course you don't need to do reinstallation. Even if something goes wrong, you can reenable IDE mode again. But the linux kernel, which is responsible for AHCI support, is perfect enough to prevent such situation to happen. – Danatela Jul 3 '13 at 5:23
