Support staff received their first offer on 29 November 2019 and on 10 December 2019 voted to ratify a settlement to their collective agreement negotiations. This settlement sees the Living Wage Rate of $21.15 as the base rate of all support staff and kaiārahi members currently earning less than this rate.

Support staff were only given a week by Novopay to decide whether or not to stay with NZEI. NZEI appealed the Ministry's decision to not pay support staff in pay period 22 (1 February 2017). In November 2016 the Court ruled in favour of the Ministry. NZEI is currently waiting on legal advice about an appeal or other legal options.
