In Windows 10 long file name support can be enabled which allows file names up to 32,767 characters (although you lose a few characters for mandatory characters that are part of the name).

Apr 26, 2010 · Using the robocopy command with Windows OS directory path name? I like to use the robocopy as a backup files in "MY Document" in windows XP. I found out due to the long directory name eg. c:\documents and Settings\IBMs users\, the robocopy does not work.
