There has been talk of rejuvenating the program but nothing firm has been mentioned. Like CGH6366 mentioned there are other non-sworn positions such as civilian admin, parking enforcement and dispatch. You could also volunteer as a VST (victim support team) member and assist victims of crimes... especially domestic violence victims.
