Ok i had same problem, it was like DirectX wasn't installed, i didn't only had problem with The sims 2 but with every game that needed directx to run..my dad tried everything, and then he reindttsled my windows and he noticed that problem was in sound card driver, my dad changed it and it worked great...ask someone or go to service to check sound driver Hope I helped

May 27, 2011 · Mmkay, so i also have this Sims problem, and when I go to my Device Manager it doesn't have a Display Adapters section so i tried the next solution given, that didn't work either -all three of them were "Not Availale" and even after the download and i restarted it, the game still responded with that message.

I learned a long time go not to be connected to the internet when the game requested to update itself. And there is a method where you delete the files from the Registry and copy the program files over from the disc yourself.
