Enable multicore rendering in the graphics options if you have a multi-core processor). I find that this doesn't do much on its own. TF2 didn't want to spread its needs around and had one core at high usage and everything else at low usage.

Mar 29, 2009 · The HD3850 is not a super fast card but the X3 720 is a pretty fast CPU that should benefit from the new multicore option. Indeed, the more GPU-intensive games I play (like COD4 and UT3) I have to set my settings down a bit, but TF2 runs amazingly well.

Admittedly, I haven't run TF2 in a while (what with classwork and job eating up most of my time, mind you), but saw that the newest patch added something called "multicore rendering", which from additional searching around is supposed to improve performance on multi-core cpu's.

Generally speaking multi-core helps. Here's the thing, no matter what, the max tf2 can use is core 0 and core 1 due to how old the coding is. Using process lasso can move almost everything off of these 2 cores when tf2 is running. level 2
