Jun 23, 2014 · Contrary to popular belief, selecting a 32-bit OS does not disable longmode in the virtual CPU. If the VM is powered on with longmode available to the guest, then it cannot be vMotioned to a host where longmode is not available to the guest. To disable longmode for this VM, power it off and set the following advanced configuration option:

Nov 24, 2016 · This issue occurs if the VT option in the BIOS of the ESX server is not enabled. However, if the option has been enabled but you are still encountering the issue, check if the ESX is a standard machine that is on the hardware check list (HCL). The Paravirtualization should not be enabled for the guest, since it is only supported for 32-bit guests.

Jan 29, 2014 · Re: your cpu doesn't support long mode use a 32 bit distribu. 1) 64-bit guests need hardware-virtualzation enabled in the hosts bios. 2) when creating the 64-bit guest you must select 64-bit in General -> Basic -> version. 3) If running Windows as host you must make sure hyper-v or xp mode is not enabled on the host.
