Sep 10, 2015 · Hello there, I'm trying to run a live P2V using vmware converter standalone 6.0.0 running on the actually physical machine to be converted and after selecting the ESXi 5.5 destination I get "The destination does not support EFI firmware".

The source computer has EFI firmware. Conversion of live computers with EFI firmware is not supported. Conversion of virtual machines with EFI firmware is supported only if the destination supports EFI firmware and disk-based cloning is performed. I am using Workstation 11 and we are being forced by dell to go UEFI with all the XX50 series device.

As discussed elsewhere, Windows Server 2008/R2 will automatically use the EFI boot loader when installed on EFI systems, and will also automatically use the GPT partitioning scheme on such systems. And you can't do anything at all about this (other than force the system to switch to BIOS, if this is supported).. But, as documented here, VMware Converter is not going to convert GPT disks.
