Oct 05, 2007 · Since vmware server is a hosted product, the host can access all the devices, including FireWire and USB 2.0 if your hardware supports it. Then you can use the host o/s built in network sharing tools to share the devices over the network (for example your vista host can share your external USB 2.0 or Firewire HDD).

Sep 29, 2009 · It isn't about Linux vs. Windows hosts. VMware Server does not support USB 2.0. If you need that, try Workstation 6. We don't also don't directly support Firewire (either 400 or 800) in any of our products (although if you only want to mount a Firewire disk, you can mount it on the host and then add a physical disk to the VM).
