Jan 09, 2017 · If you're going for gaming, Ubuntu has the best Steam support. If you are using AMD graphics, as of last spring or summer, Ubuntu dropped FGLRX. I did AMD on Linux for a little bit.. At the time, AMDs open source driver was just not there yet.

May 28, 2005 · What distrobution you're running means squat in the hardware support arena. Hardware detection is a different ball game, I've heard Knoppix is pretty good at that. Arch Linux also has an incredibly little tool called hwd that does a fantastic god. However you need to install the distro before you can use that so it may not be the best choice.

Jul 21, 2016 · Nvidia is well supported on all the major distros with their binary BLOB drivers and they work rock solid for me on old hardware. I've tried Ubuntu (standard and Gnome). Arch and Antigos and my GTX670 played games flawlessly in steam on all. I'm in the market for a new GFX card this year.
