May 02, 2013 · Ubuntu can safely read and write files on the Windows partition itself. Like oldfred stated, FAT32 doesn't support files larger than 4 GiB. These days, you may well have files that large, depending on what you're using your computer for, and neither exFAT nor FAT32 support file ownership and permissions.

Aug 26, 2012 · However, since Ubuntu including write support natively, I have never had any problems reading or writing to an NTFS partition (i.e. nothing has been corrupted etc.) So basically, No Ubuntu doesn't use FAT32, yes it can read/write to FAT32, and yes it can read/write to NTFS. In fact, Linux in general has better multi-filesystem support than Windows.
