Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is a protocol introduced to replace Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) in order to solve the IP Address exhaustion problem. Although IPv4 is still being used, some Internet Service Providers (ISPs) already require setting up IPv6 on the router to activate your Internet connection. IMPORTANT: Not all Linksys routers are IPv6-compliant.

IPv4 addresses will exhaust in about 2 years so we need to have retroactively for all devices NOW so we can begin to get ready.

The routers may well already support simple IPv6 with auto-configuration and you wouldn't notice this until the ISP gives your router an IPv6 address on the WAN interface. So, for only you to repeat another time: Some sources say Cisco will roll-out IPv6 support this spring.

In most cases, this shouldn't have any impact on other services, unless they require IPv6 (in which case, it would be good to replace the router with something better which is IPv6 certified). Avast Internet Security and Premium products offer full support to IPv6 for your computer on our silent firewall.

May 08, 2014 · Pinging the public IPv6 address directly from the i3812 is successful, and both routers can ping each other, although the 3812 can't ping the Windows box. Since the AT&T router appears to be giving the Linksys a valid IPv6 address and delegating the address space, I'm not sure where else to start looking for the problem.
